Women should be celebrated every day. Although this might be sound easier than said, International Women's Day is particularly that one day that puts the light on women, femininity, and their celebration. March 8, known as the IWD is celebrated worldwide, making it special for women for many different reasons. So what is there to know about the IWD that makes it special and worth celebrating?
The general overview and definition of the IWD day is a global day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also aims to advance gender parity. The first official IWD was held back in 1911, but on March 19, in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Denmark. It came as a direct result of the 1910 International Conference of Working Women. In 1917, the IWD was officially changed to March 8, which was a significant day for the Russian women, as their strike for "bread and peace" started over the death of Russian soldiers in World War 2. The result was the women's right to vote.
Today, international women's day is celebrated in many different ways. There are lots of marches that are organized that carry a particular message and cover the belief and stances of women of different backgrounds and with different needs. The IWD 2022 theme is connected to the hashtag #BreakTheBias which stands for gender-equal world. This year, this day will put the accent onto a need for a world that is free of bias, stereotypes, discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive, a place where the differences are valued and celebrated. With women's equality as a top theme, the IWD will once again put the voices together that all women deserve equal rights and freedom of choice.
